A grafikust a testvére betegsége ébresztette rá, mivel is lenne érdemes foglalkoznia: így született meg a kerekesszékhez való „dísztárcsa”, az Izzy Wheels.

Azóta számos stílusos kollekció van a tervező mögött és vele együtt megannyi boldog megrendelő – a kerekesszékes kisgyerekek mesemotívumos darabjaitól egészen a kerekesszékes menyasszony fehér dísztárcsájáig már mindent kértek Keane-től.

@sitting_pretty ”It’s been a good while since my chair included any flair or funk. When I was six, my very first wheelchair was hot pink. I covered it in smiley face stickers (that quickly began to peel). I remember feeling this sense of pride in the aesthetic of it. As I’ve gotten older, my connection to my chair has felt much more functional — is it light enough for me to lift easily into and out of my car several times a day? will it exacerbate or alleviate my back pain? I feel close to my chair (feels funny and also undeniably true), but I haven’t thought about dressing it up for some time. Izzy Wheels is run by two sisters, Izzy and @ailbhe.k . Izzy grew up with Spina Bifida, and both women see wheelchairs as much more than medical devices. I appreciate their vision to enter into that moment when someone first notices a wheelchair — to meet potential anxieties, assumptions, and discomfort with playfulness, individuality, and taste. . I agonized over what pair of covers to choose (prepare for drooling and heart eyes when you scroll through the website😍), and landed on the lovely @bodiljane (check out more of her work, too!!💕). (I think the tag line “Girls make the world go round” tipped the scales for me🙌🌏💕) I was looking forward to their arrival, but I’ve been surprised by how much I’ve loved having them on — taking them with me from place to place. Like the freedom and zest I feel in my chair is on the outside, too? For others to recognise right away? That intersection of function and form, practical use and beauty, utility and spunk feels so damn good.
